[Magic] War of Words

I had engaged a war of words of the Chinese-lization of english magic terminology, and it's quite pathetic to see that it turned into a war of words instead of a constructive discussion as originally intended. I was disappointed by many HK magicians whom involved in that particular discussion because the spirit of freedom of speech was abused by them.

People are entitled to their own opinion and the virtue of fighting for one's own belief (when it doesn't contradicate to the widely accepted value of justice) should be appreciated. I contend freedom of speech is one of the basic human rights, but be it essential as such, it should be exercised in a just way as awalys, that is, be subjective and respect the fact that the yardstick is different for everyone.

Let me put it in a charitable way, it is very irritating that many participants in that particular war of words blur the line between fair comment and personal attack in an abusive manner.

Mr. Albert Tam, the chairperson of Magician's Association of Hong Kong, when expressing his dissenting opinion with regard to the necessity of Chinese-lization of english magic terminology, has deliberately talked about one of my previously published lecture notes, which was named--The Best of Hong Kong's Card Magic 2004. In which he wondered about the content of the lecture notes, doubted the validity of the title, presumed my intention of giving such a name, and subsequentlly challenged my credibility based on his own persumption.

I feel pathetic for him, considering that he has been in the field for probably 3 decades by now. It's ironic that he openly admitted that he had never read my lecture notes at the first place, and nevertheless making a comment on it. In addition to this absurdity, his discussion of me and my lecture notes, which amount to personal attack by a subjective standard, has absolutely nothing to do with the notion of translating english magic terminology into chinese.

Sigh...my interest in talking with them has already been declining, but now actually plummeted to the historically lowest point.

Forget it...

On a side note, though, I suggest those Hong Kong magicians to check out The Debate Club in this following website:

So that they can learn the basic etiquette of debating!
